IdoCheckin results are in for Lotusphere 2012

When I started IdoCheckin four years ago, we were way ahead of the curve in using location based and check in services for conferences on a mass scale.  Debate all you want, but think back four years ago.  Foursquare wasn't a blip, Gowalla didn't exist and Facebook Places was a dream.

The goal was to map all of the meeting rooms and major public spaces.  Instead of checking into a session (which really didn't make sense like IBM did last year with Gowalla), we used the physical location so each could be reused over and over.  You could then say the session in the check in if you desired as a "shout".  With ~3500 check ins, I call it a success.

With the incredible assistance of Ben and his Lotusphere Session database, we placed the mobile check-in links into each session allowing him to reuse the rooms across the agenda.  With your mobile clients you could check in as you moved around.

So here are the main numbers from the over all countable check-ins (meaning I cant use the Dolphin hotel since it was there long before) of the total ~3500:

  • Lotusphere 2012 - 675
  • Dolphin Lobby Fountain - 461
  • Dolphin Pacific Hall (dining) - 261

From there the check ins vary from 1 to 200 with the Dolphin Hemisphere rooms being the leaders as a group.

I hope you all found some value and enjoy being able to find others and just announce where you are.  I know some choose not to use it outside of Lotusphere 2012 and that is cool as well.

Thanks and we will see what new features we could get in place for Lotusphere 2013.
