IBM Social Business News before Enterprise 2.0 #e20

Alistair Rennie, IBM General Manager Collaboration Solutions, had a brief teleconference to disclose announcements from IBM before Enterprise 2.0 kicks off.  Jeff Schick, VP, also joined in.

Social is having an impact on how people relate to business.

Alistair talks about maintaining a single community to find expertise and leveraging their own technology through such tools as IBM Connections.  They have:
  • Over 17,000 blogs
  • Over 1M page views in the wikis.
  • Over  20M minutes of LotusLive meetings every month

Technology is only the enabler into a different type of income. Social tech and social business helps drive ideas in more real-time. Putting great tolls in front of the people helps drive real intelligence for the organization.

The news and announcements:
  • A new IBM Connections platform, coupled with version 3.0.1, is launched to track relevant conversations around data in real-time.  They are doing this with Actience and the core part of Connections.   In the 3rd quarter they will launch this new product to manage social media in the enterprise.
  • IDC, the analyst firm, has named IBM the leader in social business platforms for the second year in a row.  This is growing at at 31.9% growth per year, starting at a $500M business last year.
  • IBM will be pushing cloud delivery to push social business technology.  A data center is being opened in Japan with full social business capabilities to open and launch in September 2011.
