GreatCall Splash - Waterproof Medical Alert Device review

Overall the GreatCall Splash - Waterproof Medical Alert Device does what it states as a medical alert device. The downside in rating revolves around clarity of expectations, setup and performance. See the review.

GreatCall Splash medical alert device

The device itself is tiny and we like the simplicity of the front with a single button.  We could also see this getting misplaced or forgotten.  The addition of the belt clip was nice and stayed on during our tests.  We could see the clip breaking if caught on something though.  People were curious about the waterproofing and we are happy to report it is safe after we put it through some submerge tests.  Normal rain, splashing and even a quick shallow dunk in a puddle should not be a problem.

The indicator on the front of the GreatCall Splash was hard to see for two people we showed it too.  Maybe a better indicator light would be helpful.  But the simple red (means low battery or signal) and green (mean full battery or coverage) was easy to explain.  The speakerphone is decent enough but the microphone I think needs some work.  maybe two would help since this may likely be lying face down when someone pushes the button for help and lies there.

Setup was a problem for ourselves and others that have done reviews before on the GreatCall Splash.  We show the online screens and they leave much to be desired for activation.  The majority of people will be setting this up for someone else so having fields to allow authorized callers would make much more sense. I know family and other health information gets added later but the account payment, management and service needs the ability for someone else in a caregiver or power of attorney privilege.

The calling plans and available services was very confusing to the older person we let read the website.  Each phone has different capabilities and looking at the phones below each area was tough.  Give me a single page for each phone and stop putting all the capabilities on one page and greying out the phones that do not do it.  Very bad web user interface when trying to figure out what plan and what capabilities are provided.

From there we had success in our tests and never had service availability issues, but we are in a major city.  Check the map on their website to be sure about where you live.  See the video for more from our review!
