Transparency and the integrated Sametime list (I love this in Trillian already)

I was reading the Business Partner Forum and of course another technote snuck out that lets you change the transparency for the Buddy List on the integrated IM client.  Quite nice how when you move focus it works also, not just on clicking.  I love this feature in Trillian already and will play with it for a few days on the Notes client.  It does require a restart when you enable it in the ini.  Yes hopefully it becomes a preference.

Problem

Because the Notes Instant Messaging contact list has no "minimize" functionality, you usually have to move it or hide (clear) it once you've finished using it.  If you find yourself wishing you could keep the contact list open but out of the way, consider enabling the Notes.ini AutoFadeIMContactList parameter.

When the AutoFadeIMContactList is enabled, the contact list becomes partially transparent when you change the focus from the contact list to the Notes client (or Designer or Administrator clients).

AutoFadeIMContactList=(a number between 1 and 100)

For example, if you set the parameter to 25, the contact list will display 25% opaque and 75% transparent when it does not have the focus.   The lower the number, the more transparent the contact list will be when the focus is elsewhere.  When you want to make use the contact list, place your mouse over it; the transparency disappears, and the list is 100% opaque.

After enabling the parameter, you can determine the exact size and location that works best to keep the contact list accessible yet out of the way when not in use.

Notes:

  • The AutoFadeIMContactList parameter placed in any location in the Notes.ini; however, it is recommended that you append it to the bottom so that it is easy to see that it has been added and easy to get to if you wish to change the value.
  • If you choose to append the parameter, note that the Notes.ini must always end with a final carriage return (blank line).   Otherwise, the final entry in the file will not take effect.
  • You must restart Notes for the parameter to take effect.
  • In most cases, you can simply move your mouse between the contact list and the Notes client to toggle the transparency.  In some cases, however, you may have click your mouse to change the focus.
