Harman Kardon AVR 1610 5.1-Channel 85-Watt Roku Ready Networked Audio/Video Receiver

Unboxing was simple, there was not too much packaging. The remote, tuning microphone and antenna are neatly packed with the small amount of paperwork.  You are only presented with a simple quick start guide in the packet so you need to go online for advanced feature guides.

As the video shows there is only HDMI input ports on the back of the Harman Kardon AVR 1610, so if you have older component type equipment this will not be the choice for you. There is two extra video inputs but no audio to match. So with the five HDMI input ports (one being MHL for things like the Roku stick) you can route all your devices through this and then out one HMDI port to the TV. This is a great feature to save more HDMI ports on your TV as well. The downside is that some lag may occur on things like XBox and PS3 gaming from our tests.

The power and sound output was great for everything but very loud action scenes from a Blueray player. Maybe we had it cranked up a bit too much but the same speakers worked great for the same movie with another receiver. Otherwise it had great sound and we used the included testing microphone to set it up.

Streaming files from the network was simple with the DLNA ability built in. The network connection also allows easy access to the Internet radio stations through the Vtuner. A great addition missing in many models in this price range.

The added Bluetooth and Airplay technology meant hooking up the iPad and iPod touches was simple. Add in the USB port hidden on the front (that we forgot to mention in the video) ad connect almost anything up.

See the video for more opinions, mainly our dislike for the remote not being able to be lit in the dark.

In summary, the Harmon Kardon AVR 1610 is a great buy with tons of features for the pricing. Keep in mind it is all HDMI but it can free some HDMI ports on your TV or even act as a hub with todays connected living rooms.
