IdoNotes (and sleep)

So the internal NOC team here uses Neoware thin clients to connect to the Citrix 4.5 server.  Today the Windows guys decide to upgrade to 8.0.1 Standard and find that each user was, as expected, using lots of memory around 400MB each.  With the machine it runs on being a dual processor with 3.5 GB of RAM, they had higher expectations.  So after everyone came on day shift and logged in as usual, the machine started grinding.

Unfortunately, they want all the bells and whistles, but back to basic mode they have to do.

  • 1) Notes 8.0.1 Standard on Citrix - can you count to 4 users only?

    1) First, start moving to 64-bit Citrix. That's pretty much a requirement. MAKE IT WORK.

    2) Put 16GB-32GB RAM in each node. RAM is cheap, time and impatience isn't.

    3) If You use Thin Clients (HP, Wyse, Neoware etc.) make VERY!! sure that You either:

    a) Make 100% sure that the internal clock/Timezone in the Thin-clients are correct or

    b) Change the settings in the Citrix farm so that the clients use the TZ on the Citrix

servers instead of the default of using the Citrix clients TZ.

I can not tell You the grief I've had with this and users callendars being in all kinds

of Timezones, causing loads of users to (wrongly) curse Notes 8.

    4) Make sure You do 1) and 2)

@Dag- yes, they are looking at 64-bit now. They were just not impressed moving from 7.x to 8.0.1 Standard so they went to 8.0.1 basic to compensate.

Character Bio:

This will take far more time than I have today. I will start with I was born and still live in St. Louis, MO. Even though for a couple years I was never, ever here and always on the road, this is smack in the middle of the US. Everything is just a few hour flight. That part is nice. No beach/ocean/coast isn't the best. But with the travel I make up for it.

Don't Panic

Looking to find me in person? Here is where I will be.
