Participate in a Lotus User Experience Study
Lotus is looking for volunteers to submit for a futures usability study. It runs this and next week. Details below!
The Lotus User Experience Research team is conducting user research the week of August 22nd (extending to the week of Aug 29th as needed) and is looking for participants.
You will be asked to attend a 60-90 minute online session (connection details to follow) where strategic design direction, encompassing multiple IBM products, will be shown and discussed.
We are looking for a diverse audience to represent a rich set of perspectives.
NOTE: This is not a usability assessment of current products nor a commitment to implement what is shown. This is directional research but your feedback will be used to shape the future direction of the products you use.
If interested, please tell us a little about yourself and available days and times using the brief survey [https://www-950.ibm.com/survey/oid/wsb.dll/s/ag3e3]. Someone will contact you if there is a day/time match.
Thank you for your time!

IdoNotes Episode 110 - IBM "Formerly Lotus" Protector?
An email came in inviting me to participate in a webinar for IBM Messaging Security Solutions. Surprisingly the content is about Lotus Protector, presented by IdoNotes webcast fame Sean Brown. So I started the trek to find more about IBM Messaging Security. I was slightly confused in what fit where and if IBM Lotus Protector was losing the Lotus name as the next in the list since Connections and Sametime.
Link to webcast on August 2nd with Sean Brown.
Why IBM Should Retire the Lotus Brand blog posting I offered in May.

LotusTechDocs on Twitter updated
I went in with the suggestions I received and tweaked the LotusTechDocs account on Twitter some more. Apparently you all are finding it useful. I bring in a bunch of technical document feeds together from Lotus using Yahoo Pipes. I label and then output the entire thing as RSS.
Everything is there: Domino, Sametime, Connections, Quickr, LotusLive, Redpapers and more.
You can then use your favorite Twitter client to make a column or channel and see them in almost real-time as they are published. You could also use Wildfire from OpenNTF in your Notes client sidebar.

Lotus Protector Mail Security hardware requirements disappoint us immensely
As a staunch blog/podcast supporter of Lotus Protector Mail Security software personally and even in our business plans, there was one underlying factor that never surfaced until recently. I am not pleased with the crazy and seemingly redlining they did for hardware requirements. Here is the link for the hardware specs (and I mean this not as a VM but an actual install on physical hardware to run as an appliance model). The actual sentence here needs to be highlighted.
We do not run IBM hardware mainstream in the data center. This was decided long ago and has not changed. But, having an installer written specifically for IBM hardware makes no sense. I should be able to take the iso and toss this Linux variable with Lotus Protector for Mail Security onto any hardware with minimum recommended space, RAM and processor. That actual manufacturer of the hardware should have no bearing if it is able to run the same Linux version that the iso installs. (SLES 10 for those keeping count).
Does it make sense to you that they wrote the installer for specific hardware in the attempt that enterprises want this? Forget that it runs on VM. Sure it can, but we want the hardware based appliance model. Not just the VM option.
Lotus Protector for Mail Security 2.5 is certified to run natively on high quality, cost-effective IBM System x® hardware as a physical appliance

This goes beyond the boundaries of Notes encryption into a user to user Internet encryption using a public/private key technology, secure web interface or even encrypted PDF files.
We have talked about the Lotus Protector family a few times in Episodes 48 and 69.
The entire IdoNotes podcast family is part of Spiked Studio Productions.
