IdoNotes (and sleep)

Talking to Sean today, we found that hotel rates are always silly, mainly if a bunch of people are going.  So drop us a comment here or email if you are interested  in ganging up on a hotel for a better group block rate

    Looking at the hotel list on the ILUG site I would say avoid the Hilton in Kilmainham. While probably a nice hotel the surrounding area at night is not the best.

    The Jury's Inn is nice and close to the city center but classed as cheap and cheerful.

    The Conrad, while expensive, is a good choice, close to the city and about 1.5 miles away from the conference center.

    The Hilton in Charlmont Place is ok but not somewhere I'd be happy having a load of tourists walking to at night, they kinda roll up the sidewalks at night around there.

    The fitzsimons hotel is another cheap and cheerful but it is right in the heart of templebar which is a great tourist area.

    Another hotel not listed is the Westin on Westmoreland St. It's a Sheraton so you can use your SPG points for it that you have built up over the years of staying at the swan/dolphin at lotusphere :), it's right beside templebar so it's a good central location and only about 2 miles from the conference center ( but I would still take a cab but I'm just lazy )

    I'm interested. I'd love to try and find something closer, within easy walking distance. I'm not sure if it's possible, though.

    I'm in, Chris.

    @2, thanks for the breakdown. I have lots of SPG points, so, for that and the other reasons cited, the Westin on Westmoreland St. sounds great. I'd prefer walking distance, but would forgo that for safer area and good location.

    Chris and I chatted again last night and think we have decided on the Camden Court Hotel. Check out this entry:

    { Link }

    As you can see on the Google Map below, the hotel is one of the closest to the venue, only .7 miles/1.2 kilometers away. That's definitely within walking distance.

    Please let me know ASAP if you want to try to get a room at this hotel.

Character Bio:

This will take far more time than I have today. I will start with I was born and still live in St. Louis, MO. Even though for a couple years I was never, ever here and always on the road, this is smack in the middle of the US. Everything is just a few hour flight. That part is nice. No beach/ocean/coast isn't the best. But with the travel I make up for it.

Don't Panic
