It is late notice that we just received, but there will be a PoT in St Louis on December 2nd and 3rd.
The IBM® Lotus® Connections Proof of Technology (PoT) provides a hands-on experience for those needing to understand how social software can foster innovation in the business environment. Participants will gain an appreciation of how Lotus Connections software helps business people with common work objectives or professional interests to find each other and share what they know. Offering an integrated set of five Web 2.0 based components -- Profiles, Dogear (for social bookmarking), Communities, Activities, Blogs -- Lotus Connections opens new channels for productive relationships. It helps users enlarge their collaborative, knowledge-sharing networks, enables businesses to tap the collective intelligence of their people, and facilitates faster, more agile business execution

A full day on the 2nd and a half day on the 3rd.

We were in a meeting today with the VP of Global Sales for Lotus and he reiterated an announcement that they are providing 50% off for gap licensing in Sametime Advanced, Lotus Connections and Quickr.

What that basically means is that if you have only 500 Quickr licenses, but 5,000 Lotus Notes licenses, the 4500 difference can be purchased at 50% off.

One of the oddities I saw in the new Standard 8.0.2 Notes client and coming in the 8.5 version also, is the integrated Sametime Primary Contacts feature.  I don't see a reason for this feature.  With the type ahead ability I show on the top arrow you can find anyone, anywhere in your buddylists.  Dragging them to arrow 2 is a non-replicable action which will confuse many users and only begs to make bigger buddylists.  If you need a core group, make a private group that can be stored in vpuserinfo.nsf and will go across clients that you utilize.  Not some random sorting plug-in that showed in Sametime 7.5.1 CF1.

The new Network World magazine just landed on my desk today (digitally and in print) and has an article by John Fontana as usual on Lotus technologies.  The article is on the announcement of hosted Lotus Notes by IBM.  But one thing stood out that suddenly adds a new wrinkle to the announcement (the Cavanaugh is Kevin, vice president of messaging and collaboration software for IBM):
IBM will have two models, the first catering to users who already have Notes and Domino licenses, Cavanaugh says.  In that model, IBM will sell Lotus Notes Hosted Messaging and let users apply their licenses to the service.  In the second model, "if you don't have the licenses,  we will sell you those and the services," he says.

So at a starting point, from the article, of $10 per user/month for 1,000 users starting point, I am seeing $10,000/month for hosted Lotus Notes with no licenses provided.  I suddenly feel better.

Give me a ring or email to talk about pricing and scalability options.

Character Bio:

This will take far more time than I have today. I will start with I was born and still live in St. Louis, MO. Even though for a couple years I was never, ever here and always on the road, this is smack in the middle of the US. Everything is just a few hour flight. That part is nice. No beach/ocean/coast isn't the best. But with the travel I make up for it.

Don't Panic

Looking to find me in person? Here is where I am and will be.
